Our Data Science class has been looking at data collected through the American Community Survey (ACS) for the state of Washington. Their interest is in the cost of housing and utilities, and how affordable it is in comparison to income. They are asking community members to complete their short survey so that they can enrich their understanding of housing and utility needs for the local community compared to the rest of the state.
Thank you for your time and support of our students.

Dear Lyle School District families and students,
With great excitement, I welcome you back for the 2024-2025 school year. I hope you had a summer break full of rest, relaxation, and excitement with those you care about the most. Back-to-school is a time of new beginnings, from young children stepping into their first classrooms to high school seniors embarking on their final year. We are thrilled to help make these experiences memorable for our students!
The first day for students in grades 1-12, a significant milestone in the 2024-2025 school year, is Wednesday, August 28, 2024. PreK, TK, and Kindergarten will be Tuesday, September 3, 2024. We look forward to welcoming everyone back to our school community.
As we prepare for this new school year, we would like to draw your attention to an important policy: No cell phone use during the school day. This policy is a testament to our commitment to providing a focused and conducive learning environment for all students. We strongly encourage parents to review and familiarize themselves with the student handbook for Lyle School District, which provides detailed information on this and other important policies. This will be located on the district website and available to pick up in the office.
Additionally, we would like to remind everyone about our transportation services. All eligible students attending Lyle Schools are provided with district transportation. Bus schedules will be available on our website Monday, August 26th.
Our students inspire us daily. We welcome you to partner with us on this journey whether you are a parent, grandparent, or advocate.
Sincerely,
Dr. Ann Varkados
Superintendent

Wednesday evening, at 5:30 PM, we will have a short meeting for anyone interested in discussing our Spanish curriculum, called VOCES. We piloted it this year, due to the recommendation of the Hood River and Stevenson School Districts. It will also be presented to the board meeting by Carolyn Barnes-Weatherill. Anyone with questions or the desire to see it in action is welcome to come.
Information: “Spanish VOCES is an online curriculum covering the first two years of Spanish learning. Each of the 22 chapters focuses on a different Spanish-speaking country. Students explore each country through vibrant images, authentic materials, interviews with native Spanish speakers, panoramas of various locations, and cultural notes relating to the theme of each chapter. Every chapter includes activities that reinforce the lessons as well as help students develop cultural competency by noticing similarities and differences between the target culture and their own.”
Today, 2/16/2024, Lyle Schools will be on a 2 hour delay. Giraffe and Elephant buses will run on snow routes.
